Test Your Water
Have fun selecting water sources to test. Some ideas...Kitchen sink water, bathroom sink water, toilet water (!), fish tank, rain water, filtered water, bottled water, water with lemon juice, water with baking soda.
Swirl the strip in the water for 3 seconds.
Hold the strip flat for 60 seconds to let the reactions occur
Pat the back of the strip dry and tape it to your paper.
Compare the colors with the test strip guide. Mark any observations.
Share test strips with neighbors
Share 10-15 test strips with neighbors so they can also test their water sources.
Note: You will need to share screen shots of the guide on the testing tube so they can also use this for comparison.
Come up with a way to share results - text or email chain, bring results to an in person meet-up, promote the idea in a local social media group where people can post their results, ...
Learn Together & Compare Notes
Compare your results with your neighbors. That could be your physical neighbors or maybe those in your school, church or community center who also test their water.
The kit includes a guide to understand what the different categories mean. You can discuss together what you are learning about your water sources using this guide.
You can usually get at copy of your local drinking water quality test results and compare against those results.
Draw Conclusions: Write up your personal and collective conclusions for all to share and learn from.
Take Action? Has the kit helped you see that there is action you want to take related to the results? Maybe you need to do more research about different water categories, or do more water testing. Working together to take the next steps to ensure quality drinking water for all involved can be very rewarding and important work.
